Medical Need:
The identification and objective assessment of sustained physically and mentally fatiguing work, exhaustion, and human performance in the modern battlefield is not only important for timely intervention and injury control but also relevant for self-regulation, workload distribution, and situational awareness.
E-TEAMS
E‐Textile Enabled Active Monitoring System (E‐TEAMS)
Wearable monitoring technologies are now widespread and already improving wearers’ physical fitness, while also becoming a critical component in enhancing the physical, cognitive, psychological, and social health of users. However, commercial systems have disadvantages that make them less suitable for use by the military, most importantly a requirement that the user be nearly still before reliable physiological metrics can be obtained. This limitation impedes real-time assessment of a wearer’s true operational health and readiness during training and combat scenarios, both situations with a high degree of motion and environmentally challenging conditions.
Vivonics’ solution to this problem, known as E-TEAMS (E-Textile Enabled Active Monitoring System), is a lightweight, wearable, flexible physiological monitoring device that can be integrated into a patch or garment. Using state-of-the-art vital sign sensors and novel e-textile electrodes that allow for accurate measurements under heavy movement in nearly any environmental condition, E-TEAMS provides the military with an invaluable tool for improving warfighter efficiency by maximizing and optimizing human performance, readiness, and individual health.
